Using and maintaining your hot tub

A hot tub with a liner can be used as soon as the stove is connected. Here is what matters most if it is to stay looking good for many years.

The liner

The glassfibre liner is easy to clean, hygienic and needs little maintenance. Use ordinary cleaning products made for bathrooms or swimming pools.

The timber

Wood is a natural material. To keep it looking good, we recommend treating the timber with a preservative, oiling it or painting it once a year.

The wood-burning stove

• Clean the stove every 3rd to 5th time you light it, depending on how much ash has built up.
• Burn dry firewood or briquettes. Coal is not recommended.

The lid

Use the lid when the hot tub is not in use. That keeps leaves, twigs, dust and other debris out, and the water holds its heat better.

The water

If the water is going to stand for several days, you should use pool water-care products — chlorine tablets, for example — to prevent bacterial growth. The recommended chlorine level in hot tub water is 0,6–1,0 milligrams per litre. There are also chlorine-free products, for example ones based on active oxygen or copper.

Winter and water

Can I use the hot tub in winter?

Yes. In winter you should either use the hot tub every 2nd or 3rd day, or drain it completely.

Do I need a filter?

A sand filter can be used in summer, but not in freezing conditions. Otherwise you keep the water clean with pool water-care products, as described above.

Can I use seawater?

The hot tub stove is made of steel. The standard is 304 steel. For seawater the stove can be made in 316 steel — ask us for a price.
